Things are already falling apart it seems with narf's dual boot solution, seems it has the potential to brick your new toy- Definetly worth a read before you consider dual booting your new Intel Mac! Please seed!!

Definitely enough reason to wait until the kinks are worked out. Thanks for the heads up.

No problem- Figured it was something people should see before they took the plunge.. And I'm sure it's not the only problem people will have either.

Most of the time I'm first on board when it comes to being an early adopter, just not when it costs me 2500 bucks

Just remember, this experiment has never been suggested as being for the faint of heart, nor to be attempted on a mission critical Mac.

Considering that I wait a few days before upgrading the OS or applying a security patch, I'd be shocked to find out that there are many aunts and uncles out there "taking the plunge"...

As someone else stated in your comments section, I imagine the bigger issue has been resolved: the development of a bootloader. Anything after this point is a matter of writing the necessary drivers which should be a relatively simply task in comparison. It is a good thing to let people know about though. If the fans are not working I wouldn't even think of starting one up.

I wasn't thinking about the aunts and uncles crowd, but I know a few people personally that would overlook something as important as cooling in their excitement to get XP to boot- Was just a heads up.

I think that is because it is a very easy thing to overlook and I think most people take their functioning for granted. That, or they see that the 'fans' are not working and think, 'ehh, big deal, they're just fans,' not understanding the critical role they play.

well....here is something from the OnMac Wiki

Fans have been verified to be working, but are generally only audible under heavy CPU load or when the CPU temperature gets very high. There have been some perceptions that XP is running hotter than Mac OS X, but measurements indicate that maximum case temperatures under XP are no greater than under Mac OS X. CPU frequency throttling is confirmed working on a MBP under XP. Installing the Intel Chipset drivers is recommended.

Funny how none of the CPU sensor software applications (or widgets) that worked on my powerbook work on my macbookpro.

Could one of you comment on which temperature sensor software you are using?
